With Bainbridge Island Airport, there's no more waiting in line for a dilapidated, unreliable ferry for 3o minutes...before again waiting 35 minutes to cross the sound to Seattle. Land directly in the heart of Seattle at Boeing Field, or by 2026, at the planned Seattle Vertiport.
Construction begins in August 2023, and concludes in 2025. Within two years, a new 3,200' x 75' wide runway will open.
The airport will be limited to passenger aircraft no heavier than 12,500 pounds. These are typically aircraft which hold less than 9 passengers.
Yes! After completion in 2025, planned service between BIA and SEA are planned through our on-demand charter providers.
Yes, in August 2023, Battle Point Park will be closed, and playfields and other park infrastructure will be removed. The original listening station building will be repurposed as a terminal facility. Note, the recently renovated children's play area at Battle Point will be relocated to Strawberry Hill Park on Bainbridge.
Battle Point Park was never owned by Bainbridge Island. It is a US Government leased facility, from the Army Corps of Engineers. The lease ended in 2020.
The airport is completely self-funded, and uses no tax dollars nor fees from Islanders. 80% of funding comes from an infrastructure grant from the FAA's Airport Improvement Program. The remaining 20% is from a grant acquired via the Covid CARES Act during lease termination in 2020.
